750th Memorial Commemoration in Hawaii Anticipating 1000 delegates
On September 6, 2009, the Honpa Hongwanji Mission of Hawaii will conduct Shinran Shonin’s 750th Memorial and Hawaii Kyodan’s 120th Anniversary at the Hilton Hawaiian Village in Waikiki with Monshu and Lady Ohtani in attendance. 1000 delegates are expected to attend from Japan.
Among the various activities scheduled will be performances by ukulele virtuoso, Jake Shimabukuro, who composed a song “Annon” and will perform at the Ala Moana Shopping Center on Sept. 3 and the Commemoration Banquet on Sept. 5. The Annon Cafe will open at the Ala Moana Shopping Center on Sept. 3, with attractions including Hawaiian-style shojin ryoyi (vegetarian meal), hula and ukulele performances, and Dharma Talks. Original Hawaiian chocolates, coffees and Aloha shirts will be on sale. Everyone is welcome to participate.
