In commemoration of Shinran Shonin’s 750th Memorial in 2011, the Ohtani Mausoleum, located in the Higashiyama district of Kyoto, will be having special programs October 12-16, 2009.  Dharma talks will be given each day from 1:10pm preceding memorial services that will be conducted from 2:00pm. Concerts by local artists, temple choirs, and rakugo (traditional Japanese comedic storytelling) performances will be offered at various venues. In addition, during the Otani Mausoluem commemorative event the Hongwanji’s cultural treasures, Hiunkaku (Flying Cloud Pavilion), and Shoin (Study Chambers) will be open for viewing daily from 9:00 – 11:00am.  All of the activities are open to the public free of charge.  Early arrival is recommended as large crowds are anticipated.
