Shinran exhibition this spring at Kyoto Municipal Museum of Art
Japan- The Shinran- The Founder of Jodo Shinshu Buddhism: His Life and Legacy exhibit will be held March 17 to May 29, 2011 at the Kyoto Municipal Museum of Art (http://www.city.kyoto.jp/bunshi/kmma/en/index.html). In conjunction with the observances of the 750th memorial for Shinran Shonin and the 40th Anniversary of the Shinshu Kyodan Rengo (Shinshu Buddhist Federation), the exhibition is being organized by the Shinshu Kyodan Rengo, Kyoto Municipal Museum of Art, and The Asahi Shimbun.
The exhibit is scheduled to include artifacts contributed by the various Shinshu temples including scrolls said to have been written by Shinran himself, such as the self-portrait known as the Kagami no Goei (Nishi Hongwanji Archives), as well as texts of the sutras and teaching including the Bando version of the Kyogyoshinsho (The True Teaching, Practice, and Realization) from the Higashi Honganji Archives.
