Historical Sites of Shinran Shonin in Kyoto

Suminobo & Odabisho  
Shinran Shonin passed away at the age of ninety on the twenty-eighth day of the eleventh month of Kocho 2 according to the lunar calendar (present-day January 16, 1263) at Zenpo-bo (present site of Suminobo Betsuin), the temple of his younger brother, Jinnu Sozu. He was cremated at an area south of Tori-be-yama which is where the Odabisho (cremation site) is located.

 

●Directions to Suminobo

Kyoto City Bus:  From Kyoto Station take the number 75 city bus. (Not to be mistaken with the Kyoto Bus.) Approximately 25 minutes from Kyoto Station. Get off at Yamanouchi Oike bus stop.
Subway: Tozai line to Uzumasa Tenjingawa station. Take exit 1. Approximately 5 minutes by foot.

●Directions to Odabisho/Otani Mausoleum

Kyoto City Bus:  From Kyoto Station take either the number 100 or 206 city bus. (Not to be mistaken with the Kyoto Bus.) Approximately 15 minutes from Kyoto Station. Get off at Gojozaka bus stop.
Signs are posted from the Otani Mausoleum indicating the route to Odabisho. which is in walking distance from the mausoleum.
