Founded in 1899, the Buddhist Churches of America headquartered in San Francisco today oversees 61 temples and its affiliates located within the continental United States jurisdiction.  Also associated to the Buddhist Churches of America is the Institute of Buddhist Studies that is an accredited graduate institution affiliated to the Graduate Theological Institution and the recently built Jodo Shinshu Center also located in Berkeley, California.
